Sri Lanka imposes new price ceilings on imported rice to protect consumers from rising costs.
In a decisive move to curb inflation and ensure affordability of staple foods, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) of Sri Lanka has announced new maximum retail prices (MRPs) for several varieties of imported rice. The regulation, effective from October 21, 2025, was issued under Gazette No. 2459/12 and is legally binding for all importers, distributors, and retailers across the country.
