Southern Province, October 20 — Motorists in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province can now settle traffic spot fines online through the government’s GovPay digital payment platform, starting today.
The Police Department confirmed that the initiative follows the successful rollout of the system in the Western Province earlier this year. The expansion is part of a broader push to modernize public services and reduce administrative delays.
How It Works
The GovPay platform allows vehicle owners to:
- Enter their vehicle number and fine ticket details
- Pay fines using bank cards or mobile wallets
- Avoid visits to police stations or post offices
The system is accessible via the official GovPay portal, offering a secure and user-friendly interface for digital transactions.
Goals of the Initiative
Officials say the move aims to:
- Promote transparency in traffic enforcement
- Reduce delays in fine settlement
- Encourage digital adoption in public administration
The Police Department has urged motorists to make use of the platform and help streamline traffic fine processing across the province.
