The newly built swimming pool at the Mannar District Sports Complex was officially opened today (Oct 3), with Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage presiding over the launch.

📍 Located in Naruvil Kulam, Nanattan Division, the Rs. 94 million facility was funded by the Department of Sports Development.

Minister Gamage recalled his January visit to Mannar, where he pledged to deliver a sports complex within a year. “Today, we are fulfilling that promise,” he said.

He emphasized the government’s renewed focus on uplifting the Northern and Eastern provinces, noting that previous administrations had sidelined these regions.

🏃‍♀️ The Minister also announced that a 400-metre running track and additional facilities will be completed within the next year.

🎯 “Our mission is to ensure equal access to sports for children across all districts and help them reach global platforms. The Mission Olympic programme is a key part of this vision,” he added.
