Vatican Foreign Minister Arrives in Sri Lanka for 50th Anniversary of Holy See Ties

COLOMBO – Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican’s Foreign Minister, has arrived in Sri Lanka today for an important official visit. He serves as the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

Purpose: Celebrating 50 Years of Diplomacy

The visit marks a major diplomatic milestone: the 50th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Holy See (The Vatican).

Archbishop Gallagher was invited by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism. His trip underlines the strength of the bilateral relationship between the two entities.

High-Level Itinerary

The Vatican Foreign Minister is scheduled to remain in the country until November 8, 2025. His itinerary includes key meetings with Sri Lanka’s top leadership:

  • He will pay a courtesy call on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
  • He is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

The discussions during these high-level talks are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation and promoting mutual interests.
