KANKESANTHURAI – The Sri Lanka Navy has conducted a major operation in the Northern Sea. The result is the detention of 35 Indian fishermen caught fishing illegally.

IMBL Violation in Northern Waters

The Navy stated that the fishermen crossed the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and were actively engaging in illegal fishing within Sri Lankan territorial waters.

The large group of fishermen, who mainly come from the state of Tamil Nadu, India, were immediately apprehended.

Seizures and Legal Action

During the operation, the Navy also seized three Indian mechanized fishing trawlers.

The Navy brought the arrested fishermen and their boats directly to the Kankesanthurai port. They will be handed over to the relevant legal authorities. The individuals are expected to appear before a local court for further legal action.
