In a landmark initiative to support Sri Lankan migrant workers, Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra today handed over the first discounted air ticket under the new government scheme. The recipient—a Juki machine operator heading to Moldova—received the ticket at a remarkable Rs. 75,000 reduction from standard market rates.

This marks the official rollout of a program designed to make overseas employment more accessible and affordable. Through the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency in Nawala, eligible migrant workers can now secure air tickets at significantly reduced prices, easing the financial burden of international travel.

The move reflects the government’s commitment to empowering the workforce and streamlining the migration process for skilled and semi-skilled Sri Lankans seeking opportunities abroad.
