Ihalakotte, October 19 — A train derailed near the Ihalakotte railway station this evening, causing significant disruption to services along Sri Lanka’s Upcountry Line, according to the Railway Department.

The incident, which occurred during regular operations, has halted train movement on one of the country’s key hill-country routes. No casualties have been reported so far.

Railway officials confirmed that engineers and recovery teams have been dispatched to the site to assess the damage and initiate restoration work. Passengers are advised to expect delays and check for updates before traveling.
