COLOMBO – The Sri Lanka Navy has achieved a massive success against global drug networks. An operation in the western high seas led to the seizure of narcotics valued at almost Rs. 5 billion.
The successful operation is part of the government’s countrywide “Nation United – National Drive” to end the drug problem.
The Massive Haul
The Navy intercepted a multi-day fishing vessel carrying over 350 kilograms of illegal substances. The massive consignment included:
- Crystal Methamphetamine (commonly known as ‘Ice’)
- Heroin
The vessel and the illegal drugs were brought to the Dikowita Fisheries Harbour. Here, the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) took over for official inspection and processing.
Key Arrest Made in Galle
Following the seizure at sea, a successful follow-up operation was quickly launched on land. This action resulted in the arrest of the owner of the multi-day fishing vessel in the Galle area.
Authorities praised the combined effort of the Navy, the Police, and the intelligence services. This collaboration shows the government’s strong commitment to protecting the country from the growing threat of drug trafficking.
